Director of Admissions

Job Summary

The Director leads and manages recruiting, retention, and admissions for Gillette College. The Director is responsible for enrollment management and the implementation of GCCD's comprehensive enrollment management plan and preparing all pertinent reports. The Director serves as the Designated School Official for SEVIS. The Director creates and directs recruitment and admission strategies that utilize a combination of in-person, virtual, marketing, and promotional outreach efforts. The position works in conjunction with marketing and communications in the conceptualization and creation of a robust marketing strategy to attract high-quality applicants and raise brand awareness.

The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of recruitment and admissions policies, practices, and services to meet admission goals of Gillette College. The position works closely with student services and academic programs to ensure new students seamlessly transition from applicant to student, including developing and implementing strategies to improve retention and persistence.

  • Ensure goals, objectives, plans, budgets, policies, practices, and actions produce desired student achievement goals consistent with the overall missions and strategic plan.
  • Practice and promote continuous improvement principles.
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation between departments.
  • Embrace current methodologies and develop new initiatives for student recruitment while implementing a strategic plan for first-year and transfer student recruitment.
  • Oversee admissions workflow processes and interface with related departments for an optimized student enrollment experience.
  • Direct efforts to provide high-quality admission and advising services using a team approach.
  • Find innovative solutions to recruit and retain student through effective admission and advising practices and systems.
  • Develop, implement, and manage programmatic marketing strategies that increase both the quantity and quality of new students and enhance the retention of undergraduate students at the college.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities which include appropriate training and work assignments, quality performance appraisals, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
  • Provide motivation for the team to achieve and maintain a high level of productivity and morale.
  • Direct the application process, from cultivation to evaluation, to decision-making, to final file reconciliation all while ensuring optimal data management practice.
  • Fully utilize Colleague modules related to area of responsibility, including Recruiter
  • Ensure proper training of enrollment services staff and maintain high-quality data standards.
  • Develop program outcomes for the admissions office, monitor assessment of those outcomes, and develop plans of action for improvement, including modifying practices and making appropriate changes to strategies, based on assessment of outcomes.
  • Work and collaborate closely with academic departments and faculty, athletics and coaches, and all other pertinent offices or departments campus-wide, to develop and implement recruitment and marketing strategies to maximize enrollment efforts.
  • Enhance and support the overall new student recruitment, financial aid models, and student retention efforts through planning, implementation, and evaluation of all programs and initiatives, which seek to enroll and retain an academically talented and diverse student body.
  • Manage recruitment and campus visitation programs, ensuring a great experience for all students, parents and guests.
  • Seek and nurture collaborative partnerships with internal and external audiences, including other departments within the institution, parents, alumni, and secondary education leaders.
  • Maintain a general understanding of special populations, athletics and international student recruitment and admission rules and regulations.
  • Comply with FERPA regulations and maintain integrity of confidential materials.
  • Create, oversee, administer, and monitor admissions, recruiting, and enrollment-related budgets.
  • Prepare and maintain statistics relevant to areas of responsibility.
  • Work on collaborative DEI goals, priorities and initiatives with other departments
  • Travel may be required for recruiting and events.
  • Campus Security Authority: This position has been designated as a CSA because it involves significant responsibility for student and campus activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications (Employees of the District are required to possess a minimum proficiency level of English, both written and spoken, that will enable them to communicate safely, effectively, and efficiently with students, co-workers, and the public.)

  • Bachelor's degree in education, student services, marketing, communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of three years experience in recruitment, admissions, or enrollment management in a higher education setting
  • Minimum of two years supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to relate to prospective students from underrepresented populations
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, general office equipment, customer relationship management (CRM) and other related software applications, and social media
  • Willingness/ability to travel.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in an area related to education and/or student services
  • Experience working with integrated computer systems
  • Knowledge of Community College Commission rules, AACRAO and NACAC guidelines, Federal and State regulations
  • Knowledge of Financial aid, program award procedures, award notification process, and continuing award eligibility requirements

Supervisory and Management Responsibility

  • This position has direct supervision over recruitment and enrollment specialists.
