    SUMMARY: The Director of Admissions reports to the Vice President for Student Services and is responsible for the recruitment of all students and the facilitation of recruitment activity for new students and the associated activities and the management of admissions counselors. The Director is responsible to meet enrollment goals established by the CMU President through innovative strategy and dynamic leadership. This position has oversight of 21 professional staff. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
    Provides leadership, oversight, and management of all admissions recruitment operations, events and strategies.
    Leads campus enrollment management meetings and assists in the overall leadership of enrollment related functions of the university at large.
    Manages admissions office on a day-to-day basis to ensure staff has appropriate information and direction so that decisions can be made in a timely manner and that tasks can be accomplished successfully, as well as to help maintain high levels of motivation and product knowledge.
    Coordinates strategic recruitment objectives of all Admissions staff, helps establish specific, measurable and attainable recruitment goals, and actively seeks ways to improve underperforming recruitment areas.
    Oversees the coordination and facilitation of a recruitment plan to address the development of various program offerings available at Colorado Mesa University.
    Responsible for oversight and planning in operational functions including data processing, communications flow, campus visit programs, day-to-day operational management, outreach center, office policies and procedures, use of banner and recruiter and web information.
    Develops and utilizes reports to identify return on investment for recruitment efforts.
    Responsible for initial and ongoing training of all staff and helps maintain high levels of customer service, motivation and institutional knowledge among staff.
    Works with VPSS to oversee budget, which is sub divided between the following individual budgets: Admission and Recruitment, Transfer Services, Campus Visit, Student Orientation, and Outreach Center.
    Represents the institution in coordinated statewide admissions activities and leads the development of campus policies that impact the admission of students.
    Must be able to recognize communication and demographic trends among prospective student markets and to identify solutions arising from recruitment challenges.
    Maintains Banner and Recruiter expertise. Ensures recruiters/counselors are using these tools to assist in achieving their goals.
    Responsible to facilitate the organization of frequent public presentations in high school and community college settings as well as on the CMU campuses at various recruitment settings.
    Utilizing effective interpersonal skills, the admissions professional must be able to work independently or in team, in an office setting or with individuals in other offices. The professional must also be able to exhibit honesty, tact and integrity relating to campus policies, student records and office/campus working protocols.
    Leads the implementation of a communications plan to address the dynamic recruitment needs of a diverse prospective student population, including identifying gaps in the plan and working to provide solutions. Works closely with the campus Office of Marketing and Publications to ensure that all Admissions publications contain timely, compelling and correct information for prospective students and their families.
    Supervises and evaluates the admissions application process and the processing procedures related thereto.
    Establishes policies and procedures to ensure the safeguarding and confidentiality of all records of the admissions office as required by FERPA and other state laws.
    Remains current on national and state admissions policies and practices and is able to implement changes accordingly.
    Oversees and ensures timely maintenance of Admissions website information.
    Applies computer technology for the efficient functioning of the Admissions Office, including Microsoft Office Suite.
    Responsible for oversight and command of Banner and Recruiter- the University's Customer Relationship management software
    Makes frequent and compelling recruitment presentations to campus visitors in the welcome center, at Mesa Experience days and orientation events.
    Travels as needed.
    Applies computer technology for the efficient functioning of the Admissions Office, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, and actively explores new technologies to enhance recruitment efforts.
    Serves as liaison to, and works closely with, other offices on campus to increase collaboration and to determine needs and resources for recruitment activities. These activities particularly relate to programming, recruitment and retention of all students, with particular sensitivities toward students of diverse backgrounds.
    Organizes, prepares and presents recruitment programs to prospective students attending high schools and junior colleges by making presentations, distributing information, utilizing current technologies, meeting prospective students and their parents, communicating with students and parents by telephone and written correspondence, and arranging campus tours for prospective students and their parents/guests.
    Perform other related duties as assigned by VPSS.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis position reports to the VPSS, and directly or indirectly supervises Associate Director of Transfer Services, Assistant Director of Social Media and Conversion, Coordinator of Programs and Campus Visitation and Manager of Data Analytics and Processing, as well as other support staff and students, as assigned.

    Required:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
  • 5 years of experience in the area of higher education admissions and/or recruitment
  • The ability to learn and apply computer technology to enhance productivity in the workplace
  • Demonstrated experience with public speaking and presentations to both large and small audiences, confidence in interpersonal networking and the ability to relate to individuals from a variety of circumstances
  • Demonstrated experience consistent with setting and achieving organizational goals
    CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLSUtilizing excellent customer service skills and problem-solving technique, the director of admissions must counsel, interview, and provide information to prospective students about Colorado Mesa University, including application process, transcript requirements, ACT/SAT scores, completed applications and related fees, and responding to miscellaneous inquires
    LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures and government regulations. Also, the professional must have the ability to write reports, procedure manuals and business correspondence, and to develop PowerPoint presentations. Also important is the ability to respond effectively, both orally and in writing to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints and to make effective and persuasive presentations on controversial or complex topics to students, faculty and community members
    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages and the ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics to office problems and procedures
    REASONING ABILITY An ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions is important. Also important is an ability to interpret a variety of instructions in verbal, mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
