Job Description
The Office of the Visitors Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) invites applications and nominations for our Events Coordinator position. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to enhance the accessibility of higher education, fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment, and improving the recruitment and graduation of our students. The target starting salary for this position is $50,000 - $55,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
Responsibilities
This is an on-campus position with some hybrid/remote work schedule flexibility.
Plans, implements, supports and manages strategic recruiting events designed to attract competitive out-of-state and in-state students. Responsible for coordinating event experiences that engage, cultivate and educate parents, alumni, prospective students, counselors, etc., increasing interest in the University of Tennessee. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) site selection, program development, and all event logistics. Ensure the presentation of a consistent message. Create organized, structured and measurable event production plans. Conduct post-event analysis.
Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree must be obtained by the date of hire; current students nearing graduation are encouraged to apply.
1 year of experience in event planning, student recruitment, admissions, campus visits, orientation, or experience in public relations, business management, customer service, client relations/management; OR,
2 years of student employment, student volunteer work or internship experience will be considered.
Experience coordinating or planning events. Experience will be considered from on-the-job experience, or as a volunteer, student, or intern.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without need now or in the future for sponsorship for employment visa status
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's Degree
2 years of experience planning large and small events.
Experience in Higher Education event planning.
Experience developing and monitoring budgets related to events.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the proven ability to work collaboratively as a team player as well as develop and foster communication and teamwork with a diverse audience.
Careful attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
Strong project coordination skills with the ability to create comprehensive event timelines from conception through follow-up.
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment when making decisions or recommendations.
Demonstrated proficiency with a variety of software applications, including MS Office.
Strong organization skills with the proven ability to balance competing priorities, complex situations within tight deadlines.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to manage and develop event budgets.
Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
Demonstrated skills with a variety of databases and web-based applications.
