Position Summary

The Admissions Counselor (JD Program) is responsible for representing the University of Oregon School of Law to multiple constituencies, including prospective students, (and on occasion, their families), and college, university, and community contacts. The admissions counselor independently develops and implements recruiting initiatives and follow-up in order to advance the University of Oregon's reputation for excellence by enrolling and retaining high-achieving law students. This position is a front-line service provider with primary responsibility for student admission counseling, recruitment travel, management of assigned projects, application processing, scholarship review, recruitment program development and implementation, and other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Admissions for the School of Law JD program.

This position requires travel to recruiting events, frequently held evenings and weekends, and must be able to work occasional nights and/or weekends to fulfill special projects and events. Candidate must be able to travel to locations that may not be serviced by public transportation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
    One year of graduate recruiting or admissions experience.
    Two years of experience using technology tools for communication, record keeping, and management of data.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with prospective students from a variety of backgrounds.
    Demonstrated ability to 1) work effectively with students, staff, and faculty from culturally diverse backgrounds and with multiple intersectional identities; and 2) advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in the university community.
    Excellent oral and written communications and experience using office productivity programs (i.e., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
    Understanding of graduate admissions requirements and ability to thoroughly evaluate application materials.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of student recruitment, education advocacy, or college counseling at an accredited college or university.
    Experience working in a higher education setting with diverse populations and cultures.
    Experience with data software systems such as Banner and ACES2.
