Admissions Counselor in Philadelphia

Penn State Admissions - Philadelphia seeks an individual dedicated to providing a high level of direct, personal service and programs to ensure students' successful admission and matriculation to Penn State in the role of Admissions Counselor. The successful candidate must be fully committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Responsible to the Director of Penn State Admissions - Philadelphia for recruitment activities in urban Philadelphia, with an emphasis on working with and recruiting underrepresented students, along with assistance in handling general admissions matters. Building relationships within the Philadelphia community is essential. Duties will include recruiting and counseling prospective students, creating/coordinating regional programming in Philadelphia and eastern Pennsylvania in collaboration with Penn State campuses, reviewing transcripts and evaluating applications, participating in campus regional activities, assisting in community relations activities, and assisting in planning and organizing special programs and events.

This position requires the ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously; strict attention to detail and time management; a high level of customer service and excellent communication skills; and proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word). Some evening and weekend hours may be expected. Local and regional travel is required once university travel resumes.

Education and Experience:

Typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous recruitment/admissions experience, particularly in urban schools with first-generation and underrepresented students, is highly valued. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as part of your job duties. A valid driver's license together with access to personal transportation is required. Successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be necessary in addition to standard background checks.
