Description

Monterey Peninsula College is offering college level courses to high school students. MPC is currently accepting applications to teach courses in Math for Fall 2018 (August 8, 2018 - December 14, 2018) as part of the Dual Enrollment Program at Seaside High School. Position open until filled.

Course Title: Math 263 Intermediate Algebra and Coordinate Geometry
Scheduled Days: M-F
Schedule Times: 8:00 AM - 8:50 AM (8/8/18 - 12/2/18)
7:40 AM - 8:50 AM (12/3/18 - 12/14/18)
Course Description: This course covers properties of real numbers, complex numbers, polynomials, exponential and logarithmic functions, first- and second-degree equations and inequalities, systems of equations, progressions, graphs of conics, determinants, and an introduction to coordinate geometry.

Hourly Rate of Pay is based on Education.

New employees may begin serving in their assignments only after they are in compliance with current health or vaccination requirements.

Example of Duties


POSITION DEFINITION:
Instructor will be assigned to teach these courses as part of the Dual Enrollment Program at Seaside High School.

Under the general supervision of the Division or Department Chair, and the Assistant Principle of Seaside High School, the adjunct instructor will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and Governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Meet each scheduled class and teach or conduct learning exercises for the entire period.
  • Contact the appropriate Division Chair and the Seaside High School Administrator in advance to make arrangements for unavoidable absences.
  • Provide each student at the beginning of the course with a course syllabus that includes written information about the course, to include a full description of the grading system and how the student will be evaluated.
  • Accurately keep required class records on attendance, withdrawal and grading.
  • Submit when due, all necessary reports such as attendance and grade reports, roll books, and class information sheets, and certify as to their accuracy.
  • Comply with all institutional policies and procedures at both Seaside High School and Monterey Peninsula College.
  • Give careful attention to all bulletins, memorandums and emails from administrative offices.
  • Check faculty mailbox and MPC/Seaside High School email frequently.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.


Qualifications


  • Master's in mathematics or applied mathematics OR
  • Bachelor's in either of the above AND Master's in statistics, physics, or mathematics education OR
  • CA Community College Teaching Credential in mathematics OR
  • The equivalent. (Equivalency Forms must be submitted for consideration)

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Teaching experience at a high school
