Description

Seattle University is hiring for a senior admissions counselor to join the College of Education. This position reports directly to the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Services. The senior admissions counselor must have a commitment to social justice and experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work around college admissions as reflected in the institution's commitment to LiftSU. The individual will support three main functions across the academic programs in the College of Education: 1) enrollment management; 2) recruitment; and 3) admissions. Critical responsibilities include: developing strategies to increase applicants in recruitment, admissions, and retention, including diverse applicants; refining enrollment management policies and processes to support programs; helping programs identify structural barriers that hinder diverse applicants from applying; assisting programs in developing culturally appropriate strategies around admissions; supporting program faculty by coordinating the use of financial aid and scholarships in admissions processes; strategizing and staffing recruiting events, including presence at venues that draw diverse applicants; and promoting and supporting diversity in applicant pools. The position is also responsible for developing relationships with prospective students, applicants, current students, alumni, faculty and staff, and community partners to promote inquiries, applications, and retention; and serving as a contact for prospects for all programs via email, text, social media, phone or in person.

Essential Job Functions
Recruiting: 50%

Critical responsibilities include: developing relationships with prospective students, applicants, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff to promote inquiries, applications, and retention; developing relationships with community partners (e.g., non-profits, churches, community groups, professional organizations, community colleges, etc.) for recruitment purposes, including with those in diverse communities; supporting program faculty by coordinating the use of financial aid and scholarships in the admissions process; strategizing and staffing recruiting events to increase inquiries, applications and registrations; serving as the primary contact for communicating with prospects for all programs via email or phone, or in person; arranging for on-campus prospect visits; creating and tracking prospective student profiles in SU's CRM based on phone calls, event attendance, emails, etc. Supporting responsibilities include: analyzing market trends and issues; identifying inquiry and recruitment lists; planning and executing advertising; drafting and acquiring collateral (brochures, promo materials, etc.); developing and updating admissions website content; collaborating with the Director of Communications and Marking to leverage social media; coordinating and executing event sponsorships; collecting prospect names at recruiting events (open houses, etc.); and generating inquiry reports for programs.

Admissions: 30%
Critical responsibilities include generating program application reports, analyzing data, and formulating recommendations. Supporting responsibilities include: supporting program admissions processes; analyzing diversity admission trends for each program; communicating admissions information to the enrollment team; facilitating the application review process; tracking and contacting applicant pools, and communicating admissions processes and requirements to applicant pool; communicating admissions decisions to Graduate Admissions; generating and reports of unconfirmed and unregistered applicants; contacting unconfirmed and unregistered applicants; and communicating info to new students.

Retention: 10%
Supporting responsibilities include: generating and pushing reports of unregistered, current students (non-applicants); communicating with and advising unregistered students; generating reports on unregistered underrepresented racial minorities (URM); and communicating registration policies, processes, and scholarship information to students.

Enrollment Management: 10%
Critical responsibilities include: developing and accessing policies and processes, including the COE recruitment and admissions communications plan; developing/implementing strategies and analyzing trends in recruitment, admissions, and retention; promoting and supporting diversity in applicant pools, admitted student rosters, and retention efforts; and generating COE and program level enrollment and retention reports. Supporting responsibilities include: projecting and analyzing enrollment; reporting to university-level constituents; coordinating with other university departments, such as graduate admissions, financial aid, registrar, and marketing; and coordinating enrollment team meetings and communications.

Other
  • Organizes and develops a procedure manual of tasks relevant to the above job functions and provides cross-training when deemed necessary by the associate dean.
  • Understand and demonstrate the mission, goals, and vision of the College of Education and Seattle University.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the associate dean.

    Qualifications
    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a field such as education, counseling, public policy, business administration, marketing, student development, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in recruiting and admissions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and the university's social justice mission, vision and values.
  • Demonstrated experience with incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in admissions.
  • Working knowledge of enrollment management, including admissions, recruiting, and retention.
  • Highly self-motivated and self-directed and able to exercise initiative and work independently.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the capacity for working collaboratively and developing and sustaining partnerships with both internal and external constituencies.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a variety of constituents in both education and regulatory contexts.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) platforms.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, including computers and calculators.
  • Strong organization skills with an aptitude for attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates follow through and fulfills responsibilities in a timely manner.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in working days/times.
  • This position requires a criminal history background check.

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a field such as education, counseling, public policy, business administration, marketing, student development or a related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Washington state certification requirements for educators and both state and federal regulatory contexts.
  • Experience working in or with higher education institutions or K-12 schools.
  • Experience with diversity recruitment, admissions, and retention.
