Required Qualifications: (As evidenced by an attached resume)
Bachelor's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and three years of professional experience in a student services related department (student work experience may be considered) or Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and two years of professional experience in a student services related department (student work experience may be considered). Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Professional experience recruiting graduate students. Proven ability to work with people from various and diverse backgrounds (for example: academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity and sexual orientation and ethnic backgrounds). Experience working in a higher education institution. Professional experience successfully recruiting doctoral students and/or postdoctoral trainees. Experience with federal grants, science education programs, graduate students and/or postdoctoral trainees. Experience multi-tasking and/or managing multiple priorities/projects. Experience implementing successful outreach or recruitment plans and activities. Ability to engage a variety of stakeholders in the creation and managing of student facing programs.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Diversity Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of a graduate student recruitment and outreach plan; building relationships with feeder institutions; and providing assistance to the graduate programs on recruitment initiatives. The candidate will have the ability to forge new relationships and effectively communicate with people and experience multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities/projects.

Duties:
  • Implement a strategic and cost-effective plan for graduate student recruitment by:
  • Foster existing pipeline relationships as well as creating new meaningful relationships with feeder schools, Center for Inclusive Education (CIE) alumni, national laboratories and/or research areas in order to develop mutually beneficial recruitment associations.
  • Participate in college fairs, professional societies, and conferences.
  • Develop and execute effective arm-chair recruitment activities by communicating to prospective students and developing tracking mechanism.
  • Meet with underrepresented applicants to Stony Brook's graduate degree programs during the recruitment and interview phases of consideration, connecting them with relevant CIE & IACS program managers and potential communities of interest across campus.
  • Organize on-campus events (such as Graduate School Preview Day and the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students) to speak to prospective students and make connections to faculty and staff with access to a critical mass of prospective students.
  • Advise CIE staff on how best to implement various graduate student programs (academic, professional development and social) and activities to attract new diversity recruits and successfully assess the needs of our diverse student populations. Meet regularly with IACS to develop and lead programming to support diverse student participation in IACS research and certificate programs.
  • Develop communication outreach plan to prospective students develop and disseminate diversity-specific recruitment publications.
  • Employ social media and other outlets to create a meaningful online presence, communicate with prospective students in a systematic fashion and advertise exciting opportunities on campus. Assist IACS in the execution of a social media strategy and outreach calendar focused on recruitment of underrepresented scholars for research opportunities at the Institute. Serve as administrative coordinator of the IACS recruitment and diversity faculty committees.
  • Use Slate to search, identify and track potential masters and doctoral applicants.
  • Meet regularly with faculty and academic departments to develop interventions that will address barriers to admission.
  • Advise CIE staff on how best to implement various graduate student programs (academic, professional development and social) and activities to attract new diversity recruits and successfully assess the needs of our diverse student populations. Meet regularly with IACS to develop and lead programming to support diverse student participation in IACS research and certificate programs.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
